CMAT Releases New Single “Whatever’s Inconvenient”

CMAT, the rising pop star hailing from Ireland, has just released her latest single, “Whatever’s Inconvenient”. The track serves as the first taste of her upcoming second album, which is yet to be formally announced. Released through AWAL Recordings, the song is a self-reflective examination of the artist’s romantic history, backed by lush strings and a gentle, shuffling melody.

In an interview about the track, CMAT noted that “Whatever’s Inconvenient” is a mission statement of sorts for her new album. The song examines why she has struggled with maintaining romantic relationships, though she admits that she may never find a concrete answer to that question. Despite the introspective nature of the track, CMAT has a knack for injecting her trademark wit and humor into her lyrics, making for an engaging and relatable listen.

The single was premiered on BBC Radio 1 by Clara Amfo and is accompanied by a visually stunning music video, shot in Kos, Greece by Collective Film. The video showcases CMAT’s distinct style and personality, with nods to Samuel Beckett and Shirley Valentine.

Recorded and produced in upstate New York with Josh Kaufman of Bonny Light Horseman and mixed by Matias Tellez at his studio in Bergen, Norway, “Whatever’s Inconvenient” demonstrates the artist’s commitment to collaboration and experimentation. The track also features artwork by London-based artist Seatton, who will be a prominent figure throughout the new album campaign.

CMAT’s debut LP, If My Wife Knew I’d Be Dead, won the prestigious Choice Music Prize for album of the year in Ireland. Following a brief live hiatus due to the pandemic, CMAT has announced a series of festival shows for the summer, including appearances at Otherside in Ireland, Rock Werchter in Belgium, and several UK festivals such as Isle of Wight, Neighbourhood, Blue Dot, Y Not?, and Camp Bestival. CMAT will also be supporting Florence + The Machine and First Aid Kit at various outdoor shows.

Overall, “Whatever’s Inconvenient” showcases CMAT’s undeniable talent and cements her status as a rising star in the global pop scene. We can’t wait to see what she has in store for us with her upcoming album.
